LOS ANGELES, CA – Authorities are searching for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Canoga Park earlier this month, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The collision occurred on December 6 around 5:15 p.m. on De Soto Avenue, just north of Gresham Street. Investigators said the victim, described as a man in his 40s, was crossing the street when he was struck by a gray or silver vehicle.
The driver fled the scene without stopping, leaving the victim fatally injured. Paramedics responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.
Surveillance footage from the area captured images of the suspect vehicle, and authorities released the video in hopes the public can assist in identifying the driver.
LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division is leading the investigation and urged witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Olson and Detective Martinez can be reached at (818) 644-8022 and (818) 644-8033, respectively. For after-hours tips, the LAPD can be contacted at 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (1-877-527-3247).
Anonymous tips can also be submitted through L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or online at lacrimestoppers.org.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether speed, impairment, or distracted driving played a role.
The incident marks the latest in a series of hit-and-run crashes in Los Angeles, prompting renewed calls for driver accountability and pedestrian safety. Officials reminded drivers that leaving the scene of a crash involving injury or death is a felony under California law.
The investigation remains ongoing.
