LOS ANGELES, CA – Police in Los Angeles are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying additional victims of two suspects accused of kidnapping and robbing elderly individuals during a six-month crime spree across the city.
The incidents, described as “kidnap for robbery,” occurred between June and November in neighborhoods including South L.A., Boyle Heights, and MacArthur Park, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
The suspects, who have been arrested but not publicly named, allegedly targeted elderly victims by approaching them in a mid-2010s gray Ford Focus hatchback. Police said the suspects would claim to be affiliated with a local church to gain the victims’ trust.
One suspect would exit the car, threaten the victim with physical violence or a handgun, and force them into the vehicle. Victims were then driven to another location where the suspects demanded money or jewelry, continuing to issue threats if the victims did not comply, authorities said.
Detectives with the LAPD Newton Division identified the suspects and their vehicle, leading to their arrests earlier this month.
In an effort to locate additional victims, police on Tuesday released images of the vehicle used in the alleged crimes.
Authorities believe there may be victims who have not yet come forward and are urging anyone with information to contact the LAPD Newton Division robbery investigators at 323-846-6572.
