Several arrests were made after violence and looting broke out in Los Angeles following the Dodgers’ World Series victory on Wednesday night. While many fans celebrated peacefully, some areas saw destruction of property and clashes with police.
Peaceful Celebrations Marred by Violence and Looting
Around 12:30 AM Thursday, a crowd surrounded and set fire to a Metro bus near Dodger Stadium after the driver and passengers evacuated safely. In downtown LA, six people were arrested for breaking into and looting a Nike store. Police went into tactical alert around 9 PM as large crowds gathered across the city.
Law enforcement worked to disperse crowds in downtown LA, with mounted police and officers in riot gear deployed. Several instances of illegal street racing and intersection takeovers were also reported. In total, police made 12 arrests related to looting, failure to disperse, and possession of stolen property. One officer was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons.
Mayor Karen Bass urged residents to “celebrate responsibly” at a press conference Thursday, noting that while most celebrations were peaceful, “violence of any kind will not be tolerated.” City officials are now preparing security measures for Friday’s World Series parade as they aim to prevent further incidents.
