LOS ANGELES, CA – Law enforcement officials are searching for an inmate who escaped from a Los Angeles County community reentry facility on Sunday afternoon, prompting a regionwide effort to locate and return him to custody.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) identified the missing individual as 45-year-old Herber Ramosrauda. He was serving a three-year sentence for second-degree robbery and had been transferred to the Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) facility in Los Angeles to complete the final portion of his incarceration.
Ramosrauda was reported missing shortly before 3 p.m. on Sunday. He was last seen near Wilshire Boulevard and South Bonnie Brae Street in the Westlake neighborhood, not far from the downtown Los Angeles area. Officials believe he left the reentry facility on foot.
According to CDCR, Ramosrauda is described as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and a light complexion. He was last seen wearing a gray sweater and gray pants, and carrying a gray-and-red backpack.
Ramosrauda was admitted to the MCRP on May 13, 2024, after being transferred from a traditional correctional facility in Los Angeles County. The reentry program is designed to ease the transition for incarcerated individuals nearing the end of their sentences, offering community-based rehabilitative services and resources to promote reintegration and reduce recidivism.
Authorities have not released information regarding the circumstances of his departure or any potential motive. The CDCR said it is working in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies to track his movements and return him to custody.
Members of the public are advised not to approach Ramosrauda if spotted, but instead to immediately call 911 or contact Special Agent Andrew Meyers with the CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety at 661-440-8477.
