LOS ANGELES, CA – Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a man whose body was discovered late Tuesday night in a coastal neighborhood of San Pedro, near Point Fermin Park. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is treating the case as a potential homicide.
At approximately 11:20 p.m., a 911 caller reported a medical emergency in the vicinity of West Paseo Del Mar and South Meyler Street. Upon arrival, Los Angeles City Fire Department paramedics located a man with a gunshot wound beneath a set of stairs leading to the beach. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The area, characterized by wooded terrain and multiple stairways connecting the bluff to the shoreline, posed challenges for first responders.
“The shoreline here is served by numerous steps to the beach line. It’s wooded and in an isolated area that is difficult to access,” said LAPD Capt. Jamie Bennett of the South Homicide Bureau. This remoteness may complicate the investigation, as the location’s secluded nature could limit the number of potential witnesses.
LAPD officers from the Harbor Division established a perimeter around the area to secure the scene and facilitate the investigation. Detectives combed the vicinity for evidence but did not recover a weapon. The victim, described as a male between 30 and 35 years old, has yet to be identified publicly, pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities have not disclosed a potential motive for the shooting, and no suspect descriptions were provided as of Wednesday afternoon.
Detectives from the LAPD’s South Bureau Homicide Division are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
“The investigation is in its early stages, and we are working to gather all available evidence and identify any witnesses who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area,” Capt. Bennett added.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Bureau Homicide Division at 323-786-5100. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous can submit tips via the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-222-8477 or through the website www.lacrimestoppers.org.
