LOS ANGELES, CA – A 43-year-old homeless woman has been charged with multiple felonies after allegedly attacking a father and his young daughter with a knife in Westminster, authorities said Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as Victoria Vu, who last resided in San Diego, faces two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of attempted willful harm or injury to a child likely to produce great bodily injury. She also faces sentencing enhancements for the use of a deadly weapon and inflicting great bodily harm, as well as a misdemeanor charge of carrying a switchblade knife.
The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. Sunday in the 8200 block of Westminster Boulevard. According to Westminster police, the father was walking with his daughter through a courtyard when Vu allegedly threw a bottle at them before launching a knife attack.
The father shielded his daughter from the assault, sustaining stab wounds to his hand and leg. The child was not injured.
A good Samaritan intervened during the attack, helping to prevent further injuries, police said. Vu reportedly walked away but stayed in the vicinity and was arrested shortly afterward.
Authorities have not determined a motive for the attack, and the investigation is ongoing.
Vu is being held pending further legal proceedings. If convicted, she faces significant prison time for the violent attack.
