LOS ANGELES, CA – Police are searching for a suspect who led officers on a high-speed chase through Los Angeles County, reaching speeds of over 140 mph on the 10 Freeway before abandoning their vehicle in Santa Monica.
The chase began when officers with the Los Angeles Police Department attempted to stop a dark gray Infiniti sedan in downtown Los Angeles. The suspect refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit that quickly escalated as the driver navigated through downtown streets before entering the freeway.
During the chase, the suspect was clocked at speeds exceeding 140 mph, weaving through traffic on the westbound 10 Freeway. The pursuit moved past Mid-City and into Santa Monica, drawing the attention of law enforcement and motorists alike.
Eventually, the suspect exited the freeway and abandoned the vehicle in the parking lot of a 24 Hour Fitness gym in Santa Monica. A search of the area ensued, with officers combing nearby streets and facilities for the suspect.
At least one individual was detained during the search, but it remains unclear if they were the driver of the Infiniti or connected to the chase in any way. No further information about the detained individual has been released.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what prompted the initial attempt to stop the vehicle. While the suspect is already facing charges related to reckless driving, speeding, and evading law enforcement, it is unknown if they are linked to any other criminal activity.
The abandoned vehicle was impounded, and forensic teams are expected to examine it for evidence that could aid in identifying and locating the suspect.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to contact the LAPD’s tip line.
