Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle Reaches Dangerous Speeds
A high-speed police chase involving a stolen vehicle ended in a deadly crash in the Antelope Valley on Wednesday afternoon. The chase began around 2 p.m. after Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to reports of a stolen car driven by 26-year-old Anna Zauner.
Chase Spans Multiple Freeways, Reaches 120 MPH
Zauner led officers through Santa Clarita on the 14 Freeway before entering the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway. The pursuit, marked by speeds exceeding 120 mph, included driving along the freeway shoulder in an attempt to evade officers. The chase extended into Kern County, where Zauner eventually turned southbound on the 5 Freeway.
Crash and Fatality in Antelope Valley
The pursuit came to a tragic end in the Antelope Valley. While attempting to cut across lanes at high speeds, Zauner lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road, flipped, and crashed, resulting in Zauner’s death at the scene, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
