LOS ANGELES, CA – A 75-year-old South Pasadena woman was fatally stabbed during a burglary allegedly carried out by her grandson, authorities revealed. The woman’s body was discovered on June 4 by her adult grandchildren conducting a wellness check at her home in the 800 block of Brent Avenue.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that two men, including the victim’s grandson, 28-year-old Bikramjot Singh Padda, have been charged with first-degree murder and burglary in connection with the death of Susan Miller. The second suspect, 44-year-old Josh Edward Atkins, faces an additional charge of personally using a knife in the commission of a crime.
“This was a senseless act of violence and loss,” District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. “Our hearts are with Ms. Susan Miller’s loved ones as they navigate this tragedy. The loss is made even more painful by the fact that one of the defendants is the victim’s grandson. Prosecutors from our office’s Major Crimes Division are working diligently to ensure that both defendants are fully held accountable for their heinous actions.”
Miller’s death was discovered after concerned family members arrived to check on her and found her unresponsive. Authorities later determined she had been stabbed during a burglary.
Atkins is being held on $2.02 million bail, while Padda’s bail is set at $2.05 million. Both men are scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 19.
If convicted, the suspects face the possibility of life in state prison.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
