LOS ANGELES, CA – The family of an 83-year-old woman killed in a car crash last month is speaking out about their grief as the driver involved, identified as social media influencer Garrett Bruno, faces charges including murder, reckless driving, and battery on a peace officer.
The crash occurred on October 10 near the intersection of Fountain and Spaulding Avenues. Esther Abouab and her husband were traveling together when their vehicle collided with another car, forcing their car into a parking garage. Abouab died at the scene, and her husband sustained serious injuries.
“My mom was so full of life. She loved to sing and dance, and she was an artist,” said Greg Morris, Abouab’s son. “Every expression of her came out in every day.”
Morris described his parents’ enduring love, having been married for more than 50 years. Now, as his father continues to recover from his injuries, the family is grappling with immense loss.
“We’re all going to walk through life with a big hole in our heart,” Morris said. “My poor father … there are no words for the pain and anguish he will have to live with for the rest of his life. It’s just devastating.”
Authorities have identified Bruno as the driver of the other vehicle. He now faces multiple charges stemming from the crash, which the family has described as senseless and violent.
“My family is in complete anguish over the senseless and violent murder of my precious mother,” Morris said. “She was the glue of our family and really the center of our universe.”
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, as the family mourns the loss of their matriarch and calls for justice. Further details on the charges against Bruno and the circumstances of the crash are expected to emerge as legal proceedings continue.
