LOS ANGELES, CA – Authorities have arrested five people, including the ex-wife of Dr. Hamid Mirshojae, in connection with the ambush-style killing of the 61-year-old doctor outside his Woodland Hills clinic in August, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Thursday.
Dr. Mirshojae was fatally shot on August 23 as he walked to his SUV in the parking lot of the Woodland Hills Medical Clinic and Urgent Care on Topanga Canyon Boulevard. A masked man approached him from the corner of the clinic, fired a single shot, and fled the scene, according to police.
On Thursday, police named the doctor’s ex-wife, 53-year-old Ahang Mirshojae, as one of the suspects in what authorities suspect was a murder-for-hire scheme. Federal agents and LAPD officers raided her Calabasas home Thursday evening, taking her into custody. She has been charged with murder and is being held without bail.
Also arrested Thursday was 46-year-old Shawn Randolph, who has also been charged with murder and is being held without bail.
Earlier in the week, authorities apprehended three additional suspects: Evan Hardman, 41, of Tomball, Texas; Ashley Rose Sweeting, 40, of Reseda; and Sarallah Jawed, 26.
Hardman and Jawed have been charged with murder, with special circumstances of financial gain and lying in wait added to Hardman’s charges. Court records allege that Hardman personally and intentionally discharged a firearm during the attack. Both suspects were also charged with assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly attacking Dr. Mirshojae with a baseball bat on May 3.
Sweeting pleaded not guilty Thursday to one count of being an accessory after the fact. Prosecutors allege she drove the shooter to and from the crime scene. Sweeting has a criminal history that includes first-degree burglary and grand theft and is currently on diversion in a carjacking case. She is being held on $1 million bail and is due back in court on December 24.
Jawed has been ordered held without bail, and Hardman remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Deputy District Attorney Benjamin Schwartz said the evidence points to a coordinated murder-for-hire plot, with financial motives at its core.
Dr. Mirshojae, a respected physician in the community, is survived by his family and patients who are left mourning his loss. The case has sent shockwaves through Woodland Hills, with residents calling for justice for the late doctor.
Further updates are expected as the case proceeds. Authorities urge anyone with additional information to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
