LOS ANGELES, CA – A suspect wanted for assault with a deadly weapon surrendered peacefully to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies Saturday evening after barricading himself inside a residence for nearly eight hours.
The standoff began around 12:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Gleason Street, a residential area near the junction of the 60 and Long Beach 710 freeways, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD). Deputies were attempting to apprehend the man when he retreated into the home and refused to come out, triggering the barricade situation.
Out of an abundance of caution, deputies evacuated nearby homes to ensure the safety of residents in the surrounding area. Officials deployed the department’s Crisis Negotiation Team, which specializes in de-escalating volatile situations, to communicate with the suspect and persuade him to surrender without incident.
Throughout the standoff, the LASD Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) maintained a secure perimeter around the residence. Deputies worked methodically to resolve the situation, ensuring no harm came to those in the neighborhood or the suspect himself.
After hours of negotiations, the suspect surrendered at approximately 8:25 p.m., LASD officials confirmed. He was taken into custody without incident.
Following the suspect’s arrest, authorities allowed evacuated residents to return to their homes. No injuries were reported during the standoff, and the LASD expressed gratitude to the community for their cooperation and patience during the prolonged operation.
