LOS ANGELES, CA – A suspect armed with a firearm was shot and killed by police officers responding to a report of an armed individual at a motel in Woodland Hills late Sunday night, authorities confirmed.
The incident unfolded shortly after 10:15 p.m. in the 21700 block of Ventura Boulevard, where Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers were dispatched following reports of an armed man threatening others at the location.
Upon arrival, officers encountered the suspect, and during the confrontation, an officer-involved shooting took place, the LAPD stated in an update released Monday morning.
Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene, prompting officers to establish a perimeter and initiate a search operation.
Authorities deployed a SWAT team and a Metro K9 unit to assist in locating the armed individual. The suspect was eventually found inside the motel, suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.
Despite life-saving measures, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Video footage captured at the scene showed police tape cordoning off a section of Ventura Boulevard as investigators focused on the Vantage Point Inn, where the incident occurred.
Authorities confirmed that a firearm belonging to the suspect was recovered at the scene. Police also noted that no officers or civilians were injured during the confrontation.
The investigation is still in its early stages, and detectives are working to piece together the sequence of events that led to the shooting. Officials stated that they will review body-worn camera footage, as well as other video evidence and physical evidence collected at the scene.
The LAPD’s Force Investigation Division will conduct a comprehensive investigation, as is standard procedure in all officer-involved shootings. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will also perform an independent review to determine whether the use of force was lawful.
