A major drug bust in Southern California led to the arrest of a man and the seizure of illegal narcotics worth over $4 million. The operation, carried out on October 16, 2024, followed an extensive investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
Massive Seizure of Fentanyl and Heroin
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Jose Alberto Soto, was apprehended during an undercover operation in the 7500 block of Central Avenue. During the search, authorities discovered more than 50 pounds of powdered fentanyl and nearly nine pounds of black tar heroin. In addition to the drugs, officers found approximately $14,500 in cash at the scene.
Potential Impact of the Seized Fentanyl
The LAPD highlighted the dangerous nature of the confiscated fentanyl, explaining that with a 2mg lethal dose, the amount seized could have potentially killed over 11 million people. The massive quantity underscores the ongoing threat posed by fentanyl in the region.
Investigation Continues
Soto was arrested on charges of fentanyl sales, and the case remains under investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to contact the LAPD’s Central Area Narcotics Enforcement Detail or submit anonymous tips through L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers.
