LOS ANGELES, CA – A 23-year-old barber remains hospitalized and unable to walk after being shot while cutting a client’s hair in a San Fernando Valley barbershop, leaving his family searching for answers as police continue their investigation.
The Los Angeles Police Department released surveillance footage in hopes of identifying the suspect responsible for the broad daylight shooting, which took place at Prodigy Barbershop in Mission Hills on Wednesday, December 11.
Video from the scene shows a masked man arriving on a scooter at the strip mall in the 15500 block of Blackhawk Street, near the intersection of Devonshire Street and Sepulveda Boulevard. The man appeared to peer inside the barbershop before briefly stepping out of frame. He then reappears in the footage, visibly loading a firearm.
Moments later, Anthony Moreno was shot in the back while attending to a client.
“He told me he felt heat, like he was really down, and then he looked down… and that’s when he collapsed,” Moreno’s mother, Michelle Moreno, said in an interview.
She explained that her son suffered severe nerve damage to his spine, and the bullet remains lodged in his right hip. His injuries leave his future uncertain as doctors work to assess his recovery timeline.
“My son was working. He wasn’t at a bar, he wasn’t doing something bad. He was doing what he loves,” she added.
Authorities say the shooting occurred in broad daylight, intensifying concerns over safety in the area. While Moreno is now stable, his recovery is expected to be lengthy, and it remains unclear when—or if—he will regain the ability to walk.
In the aftermath of the attack, Moreno’s family set up a fundraising campaign to assist with mounting medical expenses. The GoFundMe page, titled “Help Anthony Walk Again After This Tragic Event,” seeks donations to cover treatments and rehabilitation costs.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they continue their search for the suspect. The investigation remains active.
