LOS ANGELES, CA – Detectives are continuing to search for two persons of interest in connection with the deadly assault of a 78-year-old man who was attacked during an apparent theft in South Los Angeles, authorities said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the incident occurred on July 9, 2025, in the 1700 block of West Imperial Highway.
The victim, identified as Dong Wie, 78, was injured during the assault and taken to a hospital. He later died from his injuries on Aug. 19, 2025, according to investigators.
Authorities said the attack appeared to be connected to a theft, though additional details about what was taken or how the confrontation unfolded have not been released.
Information reviewed by Street People indicates detectives later identified two men as persons of interest in the case. A year after the assault, investigators are still trying to locate them.
LASD released surveillance images of the pair in hopes that members of the public may recognize them and provide information about their whereabouts.
Officials have not publicly identified the two men, and it remains unclear whether they are considered suspects or potential witnesses.
The case remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau.
