LOS ANGELES, CA – A teenage boy was critically injured and a teenage girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries after both were shot Saturday night in Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 9:13 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, following reports of a shooting in the 1900 block of Lemon Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found a juvenile boy and a juvenile girl suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment by Long Beach Fire Department personnel.
Boy listed in critical condition
The boy was reported to be in critical but stable condition following the shooting, while the girl’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
Authorities have not publicly identified either victim because both are under 18.
The shooting remains under investigation, and police have not released information identifying a suspect or explaining what may have led to the gunfire.
The circumstances of the shooting, including whether the victims were targeted or were caught in a broader confrontation, had not been publicly established in the information available Sunday.
Shooting happened on Lemon Avenue
The incident occurred in the 1900 block of Lemon Avenue, in an area of Long Beach where police have previously responded to other reported shootings.
The location has been the subject of earlier investigations this year. Long Beach police reported a separate shooting in the same block on Sept. 9 involving a 17-year-old girl who suffered a gunshot wound to the lower body. That victim was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said at the time that the circumstances and suspect information in that earlier case remained under investigation and that the shooting was possibly gang-related.
There is no indication in the available information that the two incidents are connected.
Police have not announced a suspect
