LOS ANGELES, CA – A car crashed through the front of a grocery store in Van Nuys on Wednesday morning, damaging the storefront and causing significant disruption inside the market, according to officials and video footage shared online.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:13 a.m. at Jons International Marketplace, located on Sepulveda Boulevard near Sherman Way. Video posted to the Citizen app showed a white compact SUV lodged inside the store, stopped near the front registers. The vehicle appeared to have driven directly through the main entrance, taking out glass doors and colliding with store fixtures.
The impact caused extensive damage to the entryway, floral section, and at least one checkout counter. Merchandise and debris were scattered across the floor as store staff and bystanders stood nearby assessing the damage.
As of Wednesday afternoon, it remained unclear whether anyone was injured during the incident. Authorities have not confirmed whether any customers or employees were in the immediate path of the vehicle when it entered the building.
The cause of the crash has not been determined. It occurred amid scattered light rain across parts of Southern California, but police have not said whether weather played a role in the accident.
No details have been released about the driver or whether any citations or charges may be pending. It was not immediately known if the driver was among the injured.
Officials are expected to review security footage from inside and outside the store as part of their investigation.
