LOS ANGELES, CA – A man suspected of killing his father inside a Monrovia apartment last month has been taken into custody, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities said the victim was found dead on February 22 inside an apartment on the 100 block of West Olive Avenue in Monrovia. The suspect, identified as the victim’s son, Arturo Gonzalez Jr., was arrested on Wednesday after a brief public appeal by law enforcement.
Detectives believe Gonzalez Jr. is unhoused and known to regularly travel by public transportation, including Metrolink trains. Following the killing, he was reportedly spotted in several Los Angeles County cities, including Long Beach, Lakewood, Hawaiian Gardens, and Norwalk. He is also known to frequent the Pasadena and Altadena areas, according to investigators.
Earlier on Wednesday, homicide detectives issued a statement seeking public assistance in locating Gonzalez Jr. By that evening, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that he had been apprehended. Officials have not released details regarding where or how he was taken into custody.
A motive for the homicide has not been disclosed, and officials have not said whether there were any witnesses to the killing. It is also unclear whether the suspect and his father had prior conflicts or history of domestic incidents.
The case remains under investigation. The name of the victim has not yet been publicly released by the coroner’s office.
