LOS ANGELES, CA – A man suspected of assault with a deadly weapon was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after leading Los Angeles County law enforcement officers on a pursuit through multiple neighborhoods, followed by two standoff situations before his eventual surrender.
Authorities said the incident began around 2:30 p.m. in the Canoga Park area, where officers attempted to apprehend the suspect in connection with an alleged assault involving a deadly weapon. The man, reportedly armed with a knife, fled the scene in a gray Toyota Scion.
By 3:06 p.m., the vehicle was seen driving erratically through surface streets in Reseda. Officers made several attempts to execute a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to end the pursuit, though the suspect initially continued to evade capture.
At approximately 3:12 p.m., officers successfully disabled the suspect’s vehicle through a PIT maneuver, bringing it to a stop. The vehicle was quickly surrounded by patrol units. While the driver’s side door was open, the suspect remained inside the car, leading to a brief standoff.
Around 3:20 p.m., the man resumed driving at a slow speed, heading toward the Chatsworth area. He was seen near Superior Street Elementary School before eventually stopping the vehicle near Plummer Street and Cozycroft Avenue at approximately 3:25 p.m.
During the second standoff, the suspect appeared to drink from a bottle of water and communicated with officers who had their weapons drawn. Just after 3:30 p.m., the suspect exited the vehicle and complied with officers’ commands to lie on the ground. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Officers searched the vehicle and collected an unidentified red item found near the car, which was placed into an evidence bag. Authorities have not confirmed what was recovered or whether any weapons were found.
No injuries were reported, although officials have not yet provided full details regarding the circumstances of the original assault allegation. The suspect’s identity and the charges he may face have not been released.
The investigation is ongoing.
