LOS ANGELES, CA – Police in Anaheim have launched a homicide investigation after a woman was found shot to death inside a vehicle in a residential neighborhood on Tuesday evening, authorities said.
According to the Anaheim Police Department, officers were dispatched around 8 p.m. to the area of East Wilhelmina Street and North Vine Street, near the intersection of La Palma Avenue and North East Street, following reports of a crash.
Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle stopped at the scene and discovered an unresponsive woman inside suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
The victim was identified by the Orange County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office as 48-year-old Charlene Lynn Zuazo, a resident of Anaheim. Police have not released additional information about whether Zuazo was shot before or after the reported crash, or whether she was targeted.
No arrests have been made and investigators have not disclosed any details regarding a possible suspect or motive. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.
Detectives with the Anaheim Police Department’s homicide unit are leading the investigation. Authorities have not confirmed whether surveillance footage from the area is being reviewed or whether witnesses have come forward.
