LOS ANGELES, CA – A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle involved in an illegal street race in South Los Angeles on Saturday night, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The incident, which occurred around 10 p.m. on Normandie Avenue near 66th Street, has prompted a citywide search for the driver responsible.
Authorities reported that two vehicles, a grey Dodge Charger and a dark-colored Chevrolet Tahoe, were racing southbound on Normandie Avenue when the grey Dodge Charger struck the victim, who was walking outside of a marked crosswalk. The driver of the Charger fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving the victim critically injured.
Emergency responders transported the woman to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The LAPD has not released further details regarding the extent of her injuries or her identity.
The incident has raised concerns about the dangers of illegal street racing, which has become a recurring issue in the area.
