LOS ANGELES, CA – A woman was fatally shot by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies early Thursday morning during the execution of a search warrant at a home in Rosemead, authorities said.
Deputies from the Temple Sheriff’s Station arrived at a residence in the 8700 block of Scott Street at approximately 12:30 a.m. to serve a warrant linked to an arson investigation. The location is near the intersection of Mission Drive and Walnut Grove Avenue, in a residential neighborhood east of downtown Los Angeles.
According to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies encountered the suspect upon arrival. She reportedly retreated into the home and refused to come out, prompting a barricade situation that unfolded over several hours. While executing the search warrant inside the home, deputies discovered evidence not only of arson but also of an assault “with force likely to produce great bodily injury,” the department said.
During the standoff, the woman allegedly armed herself with a large knife. Deputies then opened fire inside the residence. The woman was struck by gunfire and transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. No deputies or other first responders were injured during the incident.
Authorities have not released the woman’s identity, and no further details were provided regarding the arson or assault allegations. The Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau has launched an investigation into the shooting, which remained active as of Thursday afternoon.
Incidents involving deputy-involved shootings typically trigger multiple levels of review, including internal administrative assessments and investigations by the county’s oversight entities. However, as of now, investigators have not said what led to the use of lethal force or whether other de-escalation tactics were attempted prior to the shooting.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the LASD Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Tipsters wishing to remain anonymous can submit information through the department’s online portal.
