LOS ANGELES, CA – Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a broad daylight assault on a man by a group of bicyclists near the Carthay neighborhood of Los Angeles, authorities said Thursday.
The attack occurred on Saturday, February 22, near the intersection of San Vicente Boulevard and Carrillo Drive. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a report of a violent altercation involving a large group of teenage bicyclists and an adult male.
Police said an argument broke out between the man and a group of as many as 30 bicyclists, believed to be between the ages of 16 and 18. The confrontation escalated quickly, and the man was allegedly beaten by multiple members of the group.
The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the scene to assess the man’s condition. Authorities said he suffered minor injuries but declined to be transported to the hospital. The motive for the dispute remains unclear, and officials have not disclosed what sparked the initial confrontation.
Since the incident, police have arrested two juveniles believed to be directly involved in the attack. Their names have not been released due to their age, and no additional suspects have been identified publicly. Investigators have not yet said whether further arrests are expected.
The group’s actions have drawn comparisons to a similar case in January, when a group of teenage cyclists was involved in a confrontation with a driver in the Mid-Wilshire area. In that case, a Mercedes-Benz sedan reportedly came close to striking the group, prompting some cyclists to retaliate by damaging the vehicle. Authorities have not established a link between the two incidents, but both involve large groups of teenagers riding bicycles and engaging in aggressive or violent behavior in public areas.
Officials have not provided detailed suspect descriptions in connection with the February 22 incident and have not confirmed whether any of the remaining individuals involved are being sought. As of February 27, only two arrests have been made.
Anyone with additional information about the case is encouraged to contact LAPD’s Wilshire Division.
