LOS ANGELES, CA – The Victorian, a restaurant and nightclub in Santa Monica’s Heritage Square, announced that it will close permanently after 20 years, with its final event planned for the annual Halloween party on Oct. 31.
The venue, located at 2640 Main St., made the announcement on the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 5, at about 4:30 p.m. “After 20 incredible years, The Victorian is closing its doors, but not before we say thank you,” the business wrote.
The Victorian said it will remain open for four more weekends before the closure. The post thanked patrons who danced, drank and celebrated at the venue and added, “Let’s make the last ones count.”
The announcement did not give a reason for the closure.
Final weekends through Halloween
The venue said its last stretch of operation will run through the Halloween party on Oct. 31, an annual event at the site. The business did not announce other closing events in the post.
The Victorian is one block from the Santa Monica beach. The City of Santa Monica’s business directory lists it at 2640 Main St. with the phone number 310-392-4956 and describes it as a historic Victorian manor offering private events, a speakeasy, outdoor dining and cocktails.
A restaurant by day, a nightclub by night
By day, The Victorian operated as a restaurant and as a wedding and event venue, with a Mediterranean-influenced American brunch menu. At night it became a three-level nightclub, with DJs and live music in the basement, on the main floor and upstairs on weekend nights.
The venue also ran a speakeasy-style bar in the basement, called the Basement Tavern. It hosted Thursday salsa and bachata dance nights as well.
Home built in 1903, moved to Heritage Square
The Victorian building, once known as the Kyte House, was built in 1903 at 1003 Ocean Ave. It was moved to its current Main Street site in 1977.
The property is owned by the City of Santa Monica. The site sits in Heritage Square, next to the California Heritage Museum.
City Council approved a lease transfer in March
City records show that the Santa Monica City Council voted 7-0 on March 24, 2026, to approve transferring the lease for 2640 Main St. to The Santamonican Club, LLC. The item passed on the consent calendar, which means it was approved without discussion.
According to the city’s lease plan, the company intends to develop a members-only family recreation, events and wellness facility at the property. Planned features include a new pool, a spa and wellness center, a fitness center, a family and youth facility, a coffee bistro and a restaurant and bar.
The leased property covers 50,418 square feet, including a building of about 12,961 square feet, outdoor areas and a parking lot. The Victorian’s announcement did not mention the lease transfer, and city records do not state membership costs or an opening timeline.
Scholarship memberships and public access
The lease reserves up to 20% of membership capacity for free scholarship memberships for qualifying Santa Monica residents. It also keeps the site’s 25 public parking spaces and the lawn beside the California Heritage Museum open to the public.
The operator is required to continue supporting the Sunday Main Street Farmers Market, which uses the property’s parking lot.
Farmers market continues on Sundays
The Main Street Farmers Market is held at 2640 Main St. on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., year-round, rain or shine. The city says the market has operated since 1995 and features about 40 certified California farms.

Closure set for Oct. 31
The Victorian has said it will close after its annual Halloween party on Oct. 31, ending 20 years of operation at the Main Street property. The City Council’s March approval of the lease transfer to The Santamonican Club, LLC remains the most recent official action on the site’s future use.
