LOS ANGELES, CA – A domestic violence incident that began in Los Angeles escalated into a shooting in Cudahy early Monday, Sept. 28, leaving three people hospitalized after a woman allegedly opened fire on a group outside a home and was then shot by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.
The incident unfolded around 4:20 a.m. in the 4900 block of Live Oak Street, near Florence and Wilcox avenues, according to information provided by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The area is served by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s East Los Angeles Station, which provides law enforcement services to Cudahy and several surrounding communities.
Domestic dispute moved from Los Angeles to Cudahy
According to investigators, the incident began with a domestic violence assault in the city of Los Angeles.
The woman who was allegedly assaulted then left the area and went to her family’s home in Cudahy. Investigators said the female suspect followed her there, where the dispute continued outside the residence.
As members of the victim’s family attempted to intervene and calm the situation, deputies arrived at the home.
The confrontation then escalated.
Investigators said the suspect pulled out a handgun and began firing at people in the group.
Two family members were struck by gunfire, including a 15-year-old girl, according to investigators. The original domestic violence victim was not shot.
Deputies opened fire after woman allegedly began shooting
Two East Los Angeles Station deputies were at the scene when the shooting began.
According to LASD Lt. German Ochoa, the deputies immediately responded after the woman allegedly opened fire in an effort to protect the civilians who were being attacked.
At least one deputy fired at the suspect, striking her.
The woman, described by investigators as being in her 20s, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. Later information indicated that she was in critical but stable condition.
The two people who were shot by the suspect were also hospitalized. Their injuries were described as stable in information released after the shooting, although specific medical conditions were not publicly detailed.
No deputies were injured.
