LOS ANGELES, CA – Justin Akio Yasutake, a 39-year-old teacher and soccer coach with nearly 20 years of experience in Pasadena, is facing serious legal repercussions after being charged with possession of child pornography. Investigators discovered hundreds of explicit images and videos involving underage girls, prompting calls for potential victims to speak out.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that Yasutake was formally charged on Friday after an investigation launched following alarming reports received by the Arcadia Police Department.
The inquiry began last month when a concerned individual reported that Yasutake had sent suspicious messages via social media, in which he appeared to seek out “juvenile girls” and solicited them to send explicit videos of themselves alongside images of young girls.
This led authorities to serve a search warrant on Yasutake’s electronic devices in November, revealing hundreds of explicit images and videos, including more than ten involving girls below the age of 12.
Authorities have expressed serious concerns regarding Yasutake’s dual role as an educator and coach, suggesting he may have exploited this position to engage with underage girls.
New L.A. County District Attorney Nathan Hochman emphasized the commitment to “vigorously prosecute” such cases, particularly those involving individuals in trusted positions within the community.
Currently free on $40,000 bond, Yasutake is scheduled to appear in court again on December 23 for his arraignment. If convicted on these charges, he faces a potential sentence of up to six years in prison and would be required to register as a sex offender for life.
Detectives are encouraging any individuals who have had prior contact with Yasutake or possess relevant information to reach out at 626-574-5188 or provide tips anonymously at 800-222-8477.
