LOS ANGELES, CA – A 37-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested Oct. 16 on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy, and a stolen handgun was recovered, in connection with an Aug. 26 home burglary in the Newbury Park neighborhood of Thousand Oaks, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office announced.
The sheriff’s office announced the arrest Monday, Oct. 19, in a news release. The burglary happened in the 10 block of San Antonio Street, and Thousand Oaks Police Services is part of the sheriff’s office.
Hugo Causil Ramos was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility with bail set at $200,000, according to the sheriff’s office. His first court hearing was scheduled for Oct. 20.
An arrest is not a conviction, and the allegations remain subject to the criminal court process.
Man knocked at the front door
The burglary happened at about 1 p.m. on Aug. 26, according to the sheriff’s office. An unidentified man knocked on the front door of the home.
No one answered, and the man left the area.
Suspects left in a black SUV
About 15 minutes later, several unidentified suspects were seen leaving the home and getting into a black SUV, authorities said.
Investigators determined that the suspects had entered the house through a kitchen window at the rear.
The suspects took jewelry, U.S. currency and a Ruger handgun, according to the sheriff’s office. The agency did not release the victims’ identities or an estimate of the value of what was taken.
License plate cameras identified two vehicles
Investigators used Automated License Plate Recognition cameras to identify two vehicles that were used in the crime, according to the sheriff’s office.
That vehicle information led detectives to Causil Ramos, who was 37 and lived in Los Angeles.
Arrest in North Hollywood on Oct. 16
On Oct. 16, investigators followed Causil Ramos from an apartment complex in the Van Nuys area of Los Angeles.
He then drove to the 11000 block of Orsego Street in North Hollywood, where investigators arrested him.
Investigators searched his vehicle and found clothing matching what he wore when the burglary was committed in August, according to the sheriff’s office.
Stolen Ruger recovered at his home
Investigators then served a search warrant at Causil Ramos’ home. They recovered the Ruger handgun that was taken in the burglary.
The gun’s serial number had been obliterated, the sheriff’s office said.
Booking, bail and court hearing
Causil Ramos was booked on burglary and conspiracy charges. Bail was set at $200,000.
His first court hearing was scheduled for Oct. 20. No court record or charging document had been released as of Tuesday, and the sheriff’s office did not say whether others have been identified or arrested.
Burglary data kept by the state
The California Department of Justice’s Criminal Justice Statistics Center publishes burglary offense and clearance data in its Crimes and Clearances database. The state says the electronic files date from 1979 to the present and are submitted to the department by law enforcement agencies.
