LOS ANGELES, CA – A man driving an allegedly stolen tow truck was taken into custody on Thursday after a slow-moving police pursuit that ended in Sherman Oaks, authorities said.
The chase began shortly after 1 p.m. in the Sawtelle neighborhood of West Los Angeles. The suspect drove at low speeds, navigating through major roads and residential areas with one of the truck’s front tires missing, exposing the rim.
Aerial footage showed the suspect leaning out of the driver’s side window at times, waving an unidentified object in his hand. As the tow truck moved through Brentwood and Encino, it continued at speeds of around 20 mph or less. While traveling down Ventura Boulevard, the vehicle clipped the side of another truck, breaking off its left-side mirror.
Near the intersection of Ventura and Sepulveda boulevards, across from the Sherman Oaks Galleria, the pursuit came to an end just before 2 p.m. The suspect remained inside the truck for a brief period, speaking with police and appearing to display cash. After some time, he exited the vehicle, allowing officers to take him into custody without further incident.
Authorities temporarily shut down sections of Ventura and Sepulveda boulevards following the arrest. Details on how the suspect obtained the tow truck remain unclear.
