LOS ANGELES, CA – Four people were injured early Sunday after a pickup truck crashed into a bus at an intersection in Newhall, in the Santa Clarita area, with firefighters having to extricate the truck’s driver from the wreckage.
The collision was reported at approximately 2:56 a.m. Sept. 27 near Main Street and Lyons Avenue, according to information provided by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The truck driver was trapped inside the vehicle, while three people aboard the bus suffered minor injuries.
All four injured people were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Truck driver trapped after collision
Firefighters responding to the crash found the pickup truck and bus involved in the collision near the intersection.
The driver of the pickup was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters before being taken to a hospital.
Three passengers on the bus also required medical attention. Their injuries were described as minor, although all three were transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The available information does not indicate that anyone was killed in the crash.
The collision occurred in the early-morning hours, when traffic volumes are generally lower, but the emergency response required crews to work around damaged vehicles at the intersection.

The location is close to the Newhall Metrolink station and local transit connections. The City of Santa Clarita’s transit information shows that several Santa Clarita Transit routes operate through the broader Newhall area, including services connecting Lyons Avenue with the Newhall station.
The area is also served by commuter and intercity bus connections. City planning documents identify Old Town Newhall as an area served by commuter rail, commuter bus and local bus service.
The bus involved in Sunday’s collision was described in reports from the scene as an Amtrak connection bus. Information available from authorities did not indicate that the crash involved a Santa Clarita city transit bus.
Emergency crews treated multiple patients
The Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatched firefighters and paramedics to the intersection shortly before 3 a.m.
The response included the rescue operation needed to free the pickup driver.
After the driver was extricated, paramedics transported that person to a hospital. The three injured bus passengers were also taken to a hospital after being evaluated at the scene.
Authorities have not publicly released the names of the people involved or provided additional details about their medical conditions beyond the description of the bus passengers’ injuries as minor.
Cause of crash remains under investigation
The circumstances that led to the collision remain under investigation.
Officials have not publicly announced whether speed, impairment, road conditions, mechanical problems or another factor contributed to the crash.
