LOS ANGELES, CA – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles early Tuesday, authorities said.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a collision in the southbound lanes near Slauson Avenue shortly after 12:50 a.m. Investigators said the driver of a Toyota Prius lost control and crashed into the center divider, leaving the vehicle disabled on the freeway.
Shortly after the initial crash, three other vehicles collided with the Prius. During the crash sequence, the driver of the Prius was struck while standing outside the vehicle, according to CHP. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities issued a SigAlert, closing the two fast track lanes and the first three lanes of the southbound 110 Freeway as investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash. It was not immediately clear what led to the initial collision.
The identity of the victim has not been released, and officials have not said whether impairment or speed played a role in the incident.
CHP has not provided further details on the other drivers involved in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
