LOS ANGELES, CA – A 78-year-old woman was violently attacked by a naked man, believed to be homeless, near a construction site in West Los Angeles, authorities said.
The attack occurred in broad daylight near the intersection of South Barrington Avenue and Pico Boulevard. A witness captured video of the incident, showing the man repeatedly striking the elderly woman in the head. Construction workers near the 10 Freeway underpass intervened, pulling the suspect away and helping the victim to safety.
Authorities later located and arrested the man, though his identity has not been disclosed. The condition of the woman has not been officially confirmed.
Residents and workers in the area say the incident underscores growing concerns about violence and drug use in the vicinity of the freeway underpass. Some locals described the area as increasingly unsafe, citing a rise in similar disturbances.
Rick Dreyfus, who witnessed the attack, recounted the harrowing scene. “He wasn’t stopping. We were screaming, and he was just bashing her head,” he said. “She was beaten really bad. Her face was bloody. Her teeth looked like they were broken.”
Local officials have not yet commented on whether additional security measures will be implemented in response to the attack. The incident has reignited debate over public safety and the ongoing homelessness crisis in Los Angeles, a city that has struggled with rising encampments and related violence in recent years.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault.
