LOS ANGELES, CA – Police are investigating a burglary at a Bel Air residence where suspects fled the scene, leaving behind fake cash and luxury handbags scattered across the street.
The break-in occurred around 1 a.m. Monday in the 15400 block of Milldale Drive, a quiet, upscale neighborhood in the hills of Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, an armed private security guard alerted authorities after witnessing three male suspects fleeing the property and escaping in a black BMW.
Responding officers found several $100 bills strewn across the street near the property. Police later confirmed that the bills were counterfeit. Also found at the scene were what appeared to be high-end purses and handbags, though it remains unclear whether the items were stolen from the residence or discarded intentionally during the suspects’ escape.
LAPD investigators believe the suspects gained entry by scaling a perimeter fence. No one was home at the time of the burglary, and no injuries were reported.
Police have not released descriptions of the suspects or the vehicle beyond the make and color. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and security systems in hopes of identifying those involved.
The motive behind the fake currency left at the scene is unclear, and detectives have not said whether it was intended as a decoy, distraction, or an attempt to mislead investigators.
Bel Air, known for its gated estates and celebrity residents, has seen a rise in high-profile burglaries in recent years, prompting some homeowners to increase private security and invest in more sophisticated surveillance systems.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact LAPD’s West Los Angeles Division.
