LOS ANGELES, CA – Authorities are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver who struck and killed 42-year-old Oscar Ernesto Guardado while he was riding his bike in South Los Angeles last month.
The incident occurred on the night of October 27 at the intersection of Normandie Avenue and West 23rd Street. Guardado, a father of three, was on his way home when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene without rendering aid, and Guardado was pronounced dead at the location, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
“He was knocked off his bicycle and was in the street when he was seen by LAFD personnel,” LAPD Sgt. Gabriel Nily said during a Monday news conference.
Police described the suspect’s vehicle as a black or dark-colored four-door sedan but have not identified the make or model.
Guardado’s eldest daughter, speaking at the same news conference, appealed to the public for justice on behalf of her family.
“It does hurt us three kids knowing that we don’t have our father to see us graduate or anything like that,” she said. “He wasn’t the perfect dad, but he was the best dad to us. He tried his best to provide everything for us three kids on his own, and I’m just looking for justice.”
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the LAPD South Traffic Division at 323-421-2500 or 323-421-2577. Anonymous tips can also be submitted at www.lacrimestoppers.org.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue their efforts to locate the driver and bring justice to Guardado’s grieving family.
