LOS ANGELES, CA – Police are searching for the driver of a white sedan after a 49-year-old motorcyclist was struck and killed in an early-morning hit-and-run crash in Los Angeles’ Broadway-Manchester neighborhood, authorities said.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were dispatched to the intersection of Broadway and 91st Street at approximately 3:37 a.m. Sunday following reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and another vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found the injured motorcyclist at the scene.

Emergency personnel transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities have not publicly identified the victim. Police released only his age, saying he was 49 years old.

The other vehicle involved in the collision fled before officers could make contact with the driver, according to police.

Investigators described the wanted vehicle as a white sedan.

No additional identifying information about the vehicle was immediately available. Police have not released a make, model, license plate number or description of the damage the sedan may have sustained during the collision.

Authorities also have not released a description of the person who was driving it.

Information reviewed by Street People indicates investigators have not yet publicly detailed the sequence of events immediately preceding the crash.

It remains unclear which direction the motorcycle and sedan were traveling, where the initial impact occurred within the intersection or whether either vehicle was attempting to turn when the collision happened.

Police also have not said whether speed, impairment, distraction or another factor may have contributed to the crash.

Those unanswered questions are expected to form part of the continuing traffic investigation as detectives work to identify the driver and determine precisely how the collision occurred.

The fact that the sedan left the scene adds a separate investigative component to an already fatal traffic collision.

The Los Angeles Police Department instructs motorists involved in collisions to remain at the scene and provide the necessary information rather than leaving after a crash. LAPD also advises witnesses and victims not to pursue a fleeing driver themselves and instead to document identifying information when it can be done safely.

In this case, authorities have not disclosed whether witnesses were able to obtain a license plate number or provide detectives with additional information about the white sedan.

Investigators also have not said whether surveillance cameras near Broadway and 91st Street captured the collision or the vehicle leaving the area.

Video evidence can become particularly important in hit-and-run investigations when officers arrive after the responsible driver has already fled.

The LAPD has previously used surveillance footage and public appeals in fatal hit-and-run cases to identify vehicles and drivers, and the city maintains a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund established to encourage information that helps resolve qualifying cases.

Authorities have not announced a reward specifically in connection with Sunday’s Broadway-Manchester crash.

The victim’s death also means the collision investigation involves a fatality. LAPD notes that traffic collision reports involving fatalities are handled differently from routine collision reports and are not released through the department’s standard online traffic-report system.

For investigators, the immediate priority remains identifying the white sedan and locating the person who was driving it.

No arrests have been announced.

Police have not indicated whether they believe anyone else was inside the sedan at the time of the crash.

The motorcyclist’s identity is expected to remain withheld until the appropriate notification process has been completed.

Authorities have also not released information about where the victim lived or where he was traveling when the crash occurred.

The collision happened before sunrise, a time when investigators may also examine roadway lighting, visibility and traffic conditions as they reconstruct the incident, although police have not identified any of those factors as contributing causes.

At this stage, the confirmed information remains limited: a 49-year-old motorcyclist was involved in a two-vehicle collision at Broadway and 91st Street shortly after 3:30 a.m., suffered fatal injuries, and the driver of a white sedan left the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, saw a damaged white sedan leaving the area or has information that could help identify the driver is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department. The department’s non-emergency line is 1-877-ASK-LAPD (1-877-275-5273).

The investigation remains ongoing.
