LOS ANGELES, CA – One person was killed Monday afternoon after a vehicle crashed into a restaurant in Santa Fe Springs, prompting an investigation by the Whittier Police Department.
Officers responded to Michael’s Super Burgers near the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Norwalk Boulevard shortly before 2:30 p.m. on October 5 after receiving a report of a vehicle that had crashed into the restaurant.
Police confirmed that at least one person died in the collision.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remained unclear as investigators began examining what happened. Authorities had not publicly identified the person who died or provided information about the vehicle involved.
Crash under investigation
The collision occurred near a busy intersection in the Santa Fe Springs area, with the vehicle coming to rest after striking the restaurant.
Investigators are working to determine what caused the driver to leave the roadway and crash into the business. At this stage, authorities have not announced whether speed, a medical emergency, mechanical problems, impairment or another factor played a role.
No such cause has been confirmed by police.
The City of Whittier identifies Slauson Avenue and Norwalk Boulevard among the major roads serving the surrounding area, which includes the Santa Fe Springs and Whittier communities.
The fatal collision adds another serious traffic incident to an area where commercial businesses, pedestrians and vehicles share heavily traveled streets. However, investigators have not indicated that road conditions or the location of the restaurant contributed to Monday’s crash.
Investigation continues
Police have not announced any arrests or citations in connection with the collision.
Investigators are expected to examine the vehicle, the damage to the restaurant and other available evidence as they work to reconstruct the moments before the crash. Witness statements and any available surveillance footage could also help establish how the vehicle reached the building.
The identity of the person who died was not immediately released pending notification of relatives.
The investigation remains active, and authorities have not yet released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
