LOS ANGELES, CA – Emergency crews rescued a woman Tuesday morning after she became trapped in a tunnel in the Westlake neighborhood of Los Angeles, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to the 500 block of South Bixel Street around 8:20 a.m. following reports of a woman entering the tunnel and being unable to exit, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).
The woman was able to communicate with emergency personnel upon their arrival and did not report any injuries or appear to be in distress, the department said. An Urban Search and Rescue Team was dispatched to assist with the operation.
At approximately 9:45 a.m., images from the scene showed rescue crews positioned near a ladder leading into the tunnel. By 10 a.m., the woman had been lifted out of the tunnel using a harness and carried to the sidewalk.
She was placed on a gurney and transported to a waiting ambulance. No immediate update on her condition was available.
