Andrew Reyna Detained for Killing of Samuel Villalba
The Long Beach Police Department announced the arrest of Andrew Reyna, 47, in connection with the 2021 murder of 64-year-old Samuel Villalba. Villalba was fatally shot at a homeless encampment on East 68th Street near the 91 Freeway, where he had been living. Authorities apprehended Reyna on Wednesday after identifying him as the prime suspect in the case.
Investigation Details and Arrest
In January 2021, Villalba was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Witnesses reported seeing two men fleeing the scene toward Cherry Avenue, but no immediate arrests were made. The investigation continued, leading detectives to Reyna, whom they located at a Lynwood motel. He was taken into custody by the LBPD Special Investigations Division.
Charges and Further Investigation
Reyna now faces murder charges, with his bail set at $2 million. The motive remains under investigation, although authorities have previously suggested gang involvement.
