Incident Begins with Stolen Van Report
In the early hours of Saturday morning, a Burbank police officer opened fire during the arrest of a man suspected of stealing a white Ford Econoline van. Police were alerted to the stolen vehicle just before 1 a.m., initiating a rapid response by local law enforcement.
High-Risk Traffic Stop Leads to Shooting
Shortly after spotting the vehicle near Buena Vista Street and Vanowen Street, officers confirmed it as stolen. Officers then conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Buena Vista Street, north of Victory Boulevard. During this stop, an officer discharged their weapon, resulting in minor injuries to the suspect.
Suspect Hospitalized; Officer Placed on Leave
The suspect, who was the sole occupant of the van, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital with minor injuries. No officers were reported injured. As per protocol, the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, pending investigations by both the Burbank Police Department and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
